Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy

Affordable housing in Alberta

Alberta’s affordable housing system includes government-owned or supported housing provided by the public, non-profit and private sectors. This affordable housing is available for people with low-income who due to financial, social or other circumstances cannot obtain or maintain private market housing.

Implementation

With our $1.2 billion Capital Plan, we are already taking action by building new affordable housing and fixing-up existing housing.

Next steps will be to meet with Housing Management Bodies to implement the administrative regulatory changes that come into force September 1, 2017. Other program changes come into force on January 1, 2018.
